Can I refund a customer?

It is possible to refund a customer directly from HBook, only if you use Stripe as a payment gateway, otherwise, it is done outside of HBook. Both methods are explained below.

Directly in HBook

A prerequisite is to set “Save payment method” to “Yes” in HBook > Payment > Stripe settings.

In Reservations, you will be able to refund the credit card by clicking “Edit payments” in the “Price/Payment” column. From the pop-up, you have two options:

  • issue a partial refund by typing in the amount to refund, for example “-10.50” and select “Stripe” as the method. Finally, click on “Refund”.

  • issue a full refund by clicking the quick link “Full refund” that will automatically populate the full amount to be refunded. Finally, click on “Refund”.

Outside of HBook

If you do not use Stripe payment gateway, refunding the customer will take place outside HBook, and this is how to proceed:

  1. Issue the refund outside of HBook, be it online, for example, on another payment gateway dashboard, or offline, for example, by wire transfer.

The online payment methods are listed automatically and correspond to the ones activated in HBook > Payment > Active payment gateways. The offline payment methods list can be modified in HBook > Payments > Offline payment methods.

  1. In Reservations, you will be able to enter the refund information by clicking “Edit payments” in the “Price/Payment” column. From the pop-up, you can choose the method used for the refund, enter the amount, and click on “Refund”.
